This chance to work alongside the top social media experts at James Madison University's official communications department was a fantastic stepping stone from my university studies to the wider field of digital marketing.
Reporting directly to the Social Media Manager, I wrote copy across platforms, co-managed the GIPHY and TikTok accounts, and devised campaign strategies to promote the university's initiatives. In one example, I created, planned, and executed a highly successful Instagram story that exceeded 84,000 total views. The same story also had almost 2000 sticker taps, 660 poll votes, and 133 link clicks— a very successful Instagram story compared to the averages on the JMU account.
In one semester, I completed over 15 social media consultations with peers who were interested in "taking over" the JMU Instagram story. We reviewed important rules and guidelines to follow, due to JMU's broad audience, as well as best practices to create an engaging takeover.
