My Story

I have been an advertiser my whole life. When I was 11 years old, I won a contest designing t-shirts for my concert band. In 8th grade, I proposed a “haunted hallway” fundraiser for my track team. I put myself in charge of advertising and helped my team raise over $500. Teachers have always asked me to create posters for different events. Friends often ask me for help editing their photos and writing captions for their social media. Now, I am incredibly privileged to be earning a degree in creative advertising and getting paid to do what I love.

Creative advertising is a highly interdisciplinary field, which I find incredibly compelling as a person with many interests. For example, I find the psychology of advertising fascinating, from the exploration of human nature to specific persuasion techniques. Additionally, I appreciate and enjoy how advertising utilizes many mediums. Artistic hobbies I enjoy such as creative writing, design, music, and videography can be reimagined with specific intentions. Every successful industry must spread their message, whether to promote their brand, make sales, or build a relationship with their audience. From where I stand, the variety of jobs available to me with a creative advertising degree seems limitless.

As a creative advertising major, marketing is one of my passions. I see marketing as a force for change; to help promote a brand, or foster the growth of ideas. I see it as my job to help spread those ideas. I have over 4 years of experience working professionally in social media marketing. I was elected media manager of Madison Equality as a first year student, and increased the organization’s following over 600%. I was a social media intern for the AAAD Studies Center at JMU. In my classes I have learned software and design principles that have enabled me to design beautiful graphics for social media, posters, flyers, and more. I’ve had a chance to practice my communication skills in real-world scenarios, rather than just in the classroom.  On top of an already impressive skill-set, these experiences have brought me to the next level of marketing, and I’m excited to see what I could bring to the table for you or your organization.

Advertising is constantly changing in our increasingly globalized and digitized society. In recent years there have been huge shifts in the effectiveness and purpose of different mediums. The internet is accessible to a high number of consumers. Social media has become a part of our everyday lives. This changes everything, and advertisers have to stay on top of it to stay competitive. With my variety of skills and experience, I am confident that I will be able to adapt to any challenges the future may bring.
